This system is not necessary for your Roman Shade! Your shade will work fine without it.
Some people prefer to raise a shade using the rotation of a chain instead of pulling cords on the side, then wrapping those cords around a cleat to secure the shade.
This mechanism is an easy solution to drawing the shade up and letting it down. It works great!
NOTE: For an inside Mount, you need at least 1 1/2" available space.
